American Educational Services (AES)/Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA)

Adventures in Cash City

Develop an engaging tool to educate children in grades six through twelve on financial literacy. This tool must be non-specific to gender, race or financial background.

JPL created an animated CD game to educate and entertain students. A cast of animated characters introduce situations and randomized multiple choice questions, offering a unique learning experience while testing the player’s financial literacy knowledge. Winnings are tracked and managed by the player on a budget sheet and bank statement. The CD is packaged with a complete guide for the classroom instructor.

AES/PHEA sent the CD-ROM program to about 3,000 schools in the fall of 2003. Since then, the feedback from education professionals has been positive. Although the CD is still in the marketing phase, proof of the CD’s potential success can be gauged by AES/PHEAA recently ordering another 4,500 CDs which more than doubled their original inventory of the program.
